SUCCESS AT D&AD NEW BLOOD FESTIVAL 2024 (NEWS)

We won ‘best stand’ and a ‘best in show’!

Held at Protein Studios in London, D&AD New Blood is a prestigious annual event, showcasing creative courses from universities across the U.K.

Our Visual Communication department (Illustration, Animation and Graphic Design) went down for the exciting, week-long summer event, where the double-wide stand featured the work of the finest graduating students from across the 3 courses.

On display was a mix of portfolios, prints, motion work and physical artefacts; collectively representing the rich variety of projects and creative opportunities delivered by Sheffield Hallam University.

Not only did the judges choose the overall stand as a favourite at the festival, but they also selected Illustration student Kayla Salim for a ‘best in show’ award!

Kayla’s risograph-printed illustrated book, Ama No Inori, follows the Japanese tradition of Ama, dating back 2000 years. The word itself means “women of the ocean”. Ama divers search for pearls, seafood and more, descending 30ft without oxygen tanks, relying only on their physical capability / strength. Kayla aligned her narrative to the prayer spoken before each dive. (click here for a video flip through).
